The gift of rain

I think people growing up in the UK are missing out on a lot. I was fortunate to grow up in a place that ranges from the dense urban jungle of Kuala Lumpur to the pristine beaches of Penang. With my time at the University of Surrey I was lucky enough to travel around Malaysia including visiting the very place where I grew up as a child. Myself and Lucy got to spend a day with a traditional tribe in the vast national parks that surround Kuala Lumpur; we got to encounter some incredible wildlife including Elephants and honey bears . I briefly had the chance to head to Borneo where from my hotel room I could marvel at Mount Kinabalu.

All too often it seems that travellers breeze through the region on their way to places like Thailand or Singapore. - Nomadic Matt.

Wildlife Spotting

One of the things I remember most about my time growing up in Malaysia is the vast amount of wildlife ranging from orangutans, Malaysian tigers, lizards and Rhinos.

Relaxing in Langkawi and Penang

I'm sure most people will know of Langkawi and Penang as it is depicted in thousands of different travel magazines, websites and articles. Langkawi, from what I can recall, is a picturesque retreat on an archipelago of more than 100 islands made up of white sandy beaches, and endless sunshine.

Colonialism

Malaysia has undergone a diverse colonial history, falling into Portuguese, Dutch and British hands before finally gaining independence.

Borneo

Just to the east of Mainland Malaysia is another island called Borneo; the third largest island in the world with some of the most diverse rainforests on the planet. During my time here I was a young adult, and was there technically on business, but from memory, there are countless wildlife opportunities and a rich indigenous culture. I can recall the magnificent views from my hotel room of Mount Kinabalu; the highest mountain in the whole of Malaysia.
